Balanophora japonica MAKINO is a parasitic plant growing on the roots of Symplocos plants

چکیده
on the roots of Symplocos plants (Symplocaceae), and is distributed in the southern part of Japan and China. Its underground parts become adhesive when exposed to the air and have been used as birdlime. The whole plant is medicinally used as an antipyretic, an antidote and a hemostatic agent in China. Previous chemical studies revealed the presence of triterpenes, phenylpropanoids, lignans, methyl gallate, and palmatic acid; however, the occurrence of significant amounts of polyphenolic compounds was suggested by TLC analysis on our preliminary experiment. In a subsequent study in large scale, we have isolated thirty-four acyl glucoses having caffeoyl, coumaroyl, galloyl, and hexahydroxydiphenoyl (HHDP) groups. This paper describes the isolation and structures of these compounds.

متن کاملCaffeoyl, coumaroyl, galloyl, and hexahydroxydiphenoyl glucoses from Balanophora japonica.
Eighteen new and sixteen known acyl glucoses having caffeoyl, coumaroyl, galloyl, and hexahydroxydiphenoyl groups were isolated from a medicinal parasitic plant, Balanophora japonica. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic and chemical methods. Caffeoyl ellagitannins, which have been rarely found in nature, were major phenolic constituents of this plant, and this is the first report ...
متن کاملPhytochemicals and biological studies of plants from the genus Balanophora
This review focus on the phytochemical progress and biological studies of plants from the genus Balanophora (Balanophoraceae) over the past few decades, in which most plants growth in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Oceania, and nearly 20 species ranged in southwest China. These dioeciously parasitic plants are normally growing on the roots of the evergreen broadleaf trees, especia...
متن کاملAluminium Accumulation and Intra-Tree Distribution Patterns in Three Arbor aluminosa (Symplocos) Species from Central Sulawesi
Accumulation of Aluminium (Al) at concentrations far above 1,000 mg kg-1 in aboveground plant tissues of Arbor aluminosa (Symplocos) species is the main reason why traditional Indonesian weavers rely on their leaves and bark as a mordant for dyeing textile. Recently, Symplocos species have become a flagship species for the conservation efforts of weaving communities due to their traditionally n...
متن کاملA study of UV-C and plant growth regulators effects on plantlets of Aloe vera Line.
Background & Aim: Effects of ultra violet spectrum on plants due to their obligatory requirement for sunlight for survival are unavoidable. Direct effects of UV on plant growth and development are generally negative and usually they use many different defense mechanisms to acclimate and protect themselves. Material & Methods: The present research for the first time was conducted to investigate...
